Obituary
Mr. Benjamin Ray Silva of Huron, CA passed away October 29, 2022 at the age of 52. Ben was
born in Coalinga, CA on September 7, 1970.
Ben was graduated from California State University, Fresno, with a Bachelor of Arts in Business.
While attending Fresno State, Ben served in the Air Force Reserves from 1989-1997 as a Staff
Sergeant.
Ben was one of the founders and Board Member of the community-based Huron Aggie Football
Foundation for years. He coached pee-wee through high-school-aged children playing football.
Ben was an active participant at city council meetings and committees. He was a member of
the City of Huron General Plan committee for years.
Our brother actively encouraged residents to become candidates for local city elections. Ben’s
last act of civic duty was serving as campaign manager for Hilda Plasencia’s run for mayor.
Ben passionately advocated for a Huron High School for more than 20 years while attending
community and school board meetings in Huron and Coalinga. He served as the spokesperson
for the committee and reviewed site plans and floor plans of other high schools throughout the
state to develop a model for the funding and constructing of a school in Huron.
At St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church, Ben had served as an altar server and usher. He would go
early to church to assist the priest in preparing for mass.
Our beloved brother helped take care of our parents for the last 30 years without complaint.
He ensured they got safely to their doctor appointments, ran errands for them and did
whatever our parents needed to be done. He is survived by our mother, Mrs. Dolores Silva of
Huron; Sisters Elizabeth Carlson and Husband, Eric, of Fresno, and Lillian Kay Silva-Medina and
Husband, Edgar, of Fresno; Brother Martin Silva of Coalinga; nieces and nephews. Ben was
preceded in death by our father, Raymond Estrada Silva.
